Wall-mounted ironing boards are a great alternative to traditional boards with legs, especially when you have limited space or a dedicated laundry area that you want to keep neat. The convenience of simply unfolding or lifting a mounted unit makes bulk ironing and even quick touchups less of a hassle.
If you want to make the most of smaller spaces in an apartment, wardrobe, kitchen, utility room or laundry room, a wall-mounted board is ultra-practical and pretty darn cool. We’ve selected the top-performing wall hanging ironing boards available on Amazon.
If you’re looking for something other a wall-mounted unit, see our full review of assorted ironing boards.
1. Hafele America Folding Wall Mount Ironing Board
The Hafele America wall mounted board is a firm favorite on Amazon. It’s the most versatile of all the boards in this review because not only does it fold, but it swivels 90 degrees, both left and right. Additionally, it locks into position wherever you want it so it won’t shift or slide while in use.
Like all the wall hanging boards, it’s a genius little space saver, and because of its folding capabilities, you get a longer ironing board ideally suited for trouser pants and larger clothing items. Simply fold-down when ironing and fold-up when you’re done.
The board has a perforated metal base structure that allows steam to pass through. This allows excess moisture to dissipate. For this reason, coated metal boards will outlast wooden alternatives.
It is made with high-quality steel and powder coated to avoid rust so it should outlast the competitors. It also a product warranty for 3 years. It is super neat and practical, but if we had one minor criticism, it would be that the board is not the best looking of the wall-mounted options.
The board is simple to mount and should ideally have a backing board for extra stability. When folded and stored against the wall, it protrudes about 5 inches so it is not suited for mounting behind a door if there is not adequate clearance.
- Board size: 37 x 12 inches (94 x 30 cm)
- Weight: 24.8 ounces
- Folded distance from wall: 5 inches
- Folds and swivels
- 3 year warranty
- Not the best-looking, wall-mounted option
- Heaviest in the range
2. Eureka Small Wall Mounted Ironing Board Unit
The Eureka wall mounted ironing board is unique in that it folds down instead of up, unlike the other wall-mounted boards in this selection. The base is also wooden compared to the metal construction on the others.
It has a zinc-coated fixing plate that attaches to the wall and the silver ironing board cover creates a neat, modern-looking accessory to add to your laundry room or utility room. I personally feel it’s the best looking of all the wall-mounted options.
This is the ideal board for singles or couples who don’t have large amounts of ironing but need a board handy for occasional touchups. It doesn’t swivel or fold so it should be placed in the position you intend to use it. We love its no-fuss simplicity.
It’s a high-quality product, but because it has a wood base, excessive exposure or steam may cause it to retain moisture or swell and this could damage the board in the long term. For this reason, we wouldn’t recommend it for daily use.
When stored flat, it rests only 1.5 inches from the wall so is ideal to place behind a door. It has an easy-to-use release mechanism for opening and closing.
All hardware is provided and its a super easy DIY installation. It should ideally be mounted onto a backer board to ensure the board remains firmly in place. The board arrives fully assembled.
- Shortest board size: 32 x 12 inches (81 x 30cm)
- Weight: 9.2 pounds
- Folded distance from wall: 1.5 inches
- Excellent durability and quality
- Easy to install
- 1 year warranty
- Not ideal for daily use (because of the wooden base)
3. Xabitat Vertical Wall Hanging Ironing Board (Cheap Budget Option)
The Xabitat wall hanging ironing board is the cheapest and lightest of the lot, and although not the leader in quality, it is perfect for small ironing needs and for those working within a limited budget. It’s also the widest of all the board options listed here and is the flattest (0.8 inches) when stowed away.
It’s not however designed for heavy use. Weekly ironing for couples would be perfect. It’s also a good option for elderly people who don’t want to grapple with a weighty board. Despite its more delicate frame, the manufacturer approves a load capacity of up to 25 pounds which is more than adequate for ironing and folding.
The board frame is made of a metal mesh which makes it ideal for steam ironing. It works really well for the price. The padding is a little thin so you may want to consider a replacement to avoid the mesh grid design from imprinting on garments when you iron.
We’d recommend stronger hardware for mounting to the wall. A backing board is best when installing it onto drywall.
- Widest board size: 37 x 15 inches (94 x 38 cm)
- Weight: 8.5 pounds
- Folded distance from wall: 0.8 inches
- 25 pound load capacity
- Powder-coated to prevent rust
- Locks securely into place
- Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects
- Hardware not ideal making install a bit more tricky
Wall-mounted ironing board units are space-friendly products that cut out the hassle of heavy boards and folding legs.
They are best suited for smaller ironing needs. With excessive use, they tend to wear faster than ironing boards with legs.
Elderly people benefit greatly from the light and easy setup process. The added advantage is that with no leg support, it allows for leg-room below the board, so you can even sit while ironing. It’s also a fantastic time saver for anyone who occasionally needs to touch up a shirt or blouse, simply fold down the board to iron, and pop it up when you’re done.
Mounted ironing boards are generally smaller considering they need to pack away inconspicuously. However, the space from the Xabitat, 37 x 15 inches (94 x 38 cm) or even the narrower Hafele, 37 x 12 inches (94 x 30 cm) is all you need for basic cloth ironing and folding.
The Hafele America is our more pricey board and the Xabitat is the most affordable, but when it comes to quality, you pretty much get what you pay for.
Installation of the above products is all pretty standard if you have the basic tools. The hardware that comes with the Xabitat could probably do with an upgrade. Even though it’s the lightest of all the boards, you don’t want it pulling out the wall if not securely fastened.
The board should be attached to the wall at about belly button level to ensure you don’t need to bend your back and strain when ironing.
Safety & Product Warranty
All the boards have safety latches to secure the board in position. When it comes to safety, ensure the unit is securely mounted to avoid any injuries. Heavy-duty ironing equipment should not be placed on a wall hanging board.
Wear and tear are not covered by the manufacturer warranties, but should something break due to a fault on their part, you should be able to get a replacement. Replacement ironing board covers are mostly available from the manufacturer and in some cases, on Amazon.
We voted the Hafele America as our winner for its superior quality as well as its overwhelming popularity online. Ultimately, the product you order should suit your personal preference. And while you’re taking advantage of your available wall space, a wall-mounted steam iron caddy could also come in handy.
To sum it up, pick the product that suits your space, ironing needs and budget. There are cheaper boards available with legs, but the convenience of having a fold-out board at hand (without the setup) means you can get your ironing done faster and with less fuss… and that always the ultimate goal.
